Connectivity issues with internet/router

Hello, I got satellite internet setup yesterday and installed a wireless Dlink router so that I could share the internet connection with my laptop. So after some time of talking with Dlink on the phone and reassigning the router IP address so they modem and router didn't conflict I was finally able to access the net. So there I was trying to set up the wireless connection on my laptop and something went south. My husband was so excited he jumped on the desktop right away, installed Limewire and was proceeding to download some music as he was doing that I was working on my laptop trying to network. So I must of made some mistake. First off I went through the wireless network wizard on the desktop and I assigned the SSID and the special code for it. THen went to my laptop and used the wizard to install the network and entered in the same information. In the mean time I guess it was detecting the wireless connection. Well something worked and I was able to connect to the internet on the laptop, I was happy. So it worked for about 10 minutes then the internet connection on the desktop just dropped and now it won't connect at all. So I was online with the notebook and not the desktop so I know the connection was fine so I am not sure if it had something to do with the network settings or the router but before I went to bed I went into the web based router set up and like an idiot changed that SSID to the one that the desktop was using and now neither computer will work. Ughh! Any suggestions?

well, you made one mistake. STOP CHANGING THE SSID !!!!!! SSID is like the routers name, lets say we call it bob. your laptop is connected to bob so you can access the net. Then you try to connect the desktop, and enter jim into the SSID, now your desktop is connected to jim and the laptop is trying to connect to bob. put the same SSID in each computer

what kind of router?

RESET the router. hard. pushe the button in for like 45 seconds.

then run the network setup wizard from the router's browser accessed config menu. NOT windows. (usually accessed by going into IE, then typing "192.168.0.1" in the address bar and hitting enter)

do this on a computer connected to one of the router's LAN ports.

Name your SSID something easy to remember. Connect to your ISP through the wizard, set all settings.

Go on notebook. When theres a bubble in the lower right hand corner of the screen that says "one or more wireless networks detected", click on it.

Select your SSID from the list of availiable networks, and click connect in the lower right corner of this box, and say "connect anyway" to the box that appears. Ypu should now be connected.
