Connection problem

Hello.

Someone know why i cant connect to the internet with the cabel suplied with the adsl modem? Even if its a cabel that goes right in to the wall whit out a modem my network card wont recognize the cabel, the litel lamp on the network card just wont lit up.

But when i use my router (Level1 WBR-3400tx) and connect everithing through that it works just fine! THe internet cabel goes to the router and i just take a networkcabel from one of the places on the router to my computer and it works perfectly, it doesent even mather what kind of cabel it is i use.

Someone know how to make it work with out a router??
 
the connection in your computer sounds like a network card, not a modem

explain you whole setup again, and please read what you write as poor spelling and gramm = lack of readability

Sry for my bad englis but i will try again.

The setup that dosent work with my network card is:
When i connect the internet cabel directly to my computer, it dosent mather if its just a cabel going straight into the wall or if its a brodband modem that suplies the internet.

The setup that works
When the internet cabel goes in to the router and i take another cabel and connect my computer to one of the lan ports on the router.

If i dont use the router the lamp on my network card (the one on the back of the computer) wont light up and you will get the mesage that a network cabel is not connected.

lets get things all cleared up here. You cannont connect to the internet with a modem.

a modem is not the same thing as a router

however the router you have (wireless i note) has a modem built into it.

so you connect the wall to the router (with built in modem) with connects to the internet and shares that connection with all the 4 network ports

however when you connect the wall directly to the computer you dont get a connection... well that because you dont have a modem in place. Your card in the computer is a network card and not a modem
 
Hehe sry for the missunderstanding, im not from a US speaking contry :P

I will explain all now, i tried to keep the text short but i will explain the hole setup now.


From my wall i have a internet output.

To the output i must connect my broadband modem, not a dialup modem instead the broadband modem is always connected to the internet whitout having to enter user name or password.

the broadband modem has a lan cabel that came whit it. That i have to connect to the modem and the router.

Then from the router i have another cabel thats my own that goes into my computer and one of the LAN ports on the router.

Thats how i get the internet. My router, as i know it, dont have a bult in modem. The router i use is a Level1 WBR-3400tx Wireless router.

But the problem is that when i dont want to use the router and instead just take the cabel suplied whit the broadband modem and connect it directly to my computer whit no router betwen the broadband modem and my computer my network card wont react to it.

The message that says "a network cabel is not connected" keep apearing and the light on the back of my network card wont light up. I tried to update to the latest drivers but that dident solve the problem.

My network card is a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family fast ethernet NIC #3

US is not a language, i'm not being nasty about you spelling or gramma, It was just tough to read the first post and often it can be hard to explani exactly what the problems is

You are wrong the router model WBR-3400tx has abuilt in modem, and that uses your password and username through (most likely PPPoE authorisation)

You modem may need configuring, what model modem is it?
 
A okay, but i dont think it have to do anything whit the modem, because my last internet suplier dident give me a modem, insted it was just a cabel from an wall output then directly to the computer, and that dident work to.

But the modem is a webstar
 
i think he is saying the only way he can connect to the net is with his router. if he connects the modem direct to the comp it dosent work. if this is right it sounds like an ip addy problem
 
Yeah thats a short way 2 put it =)
But it dosent mather if its a modem or not, as long as i directly connect my computer whit the internet cabel my network card wont react. Its only when the router is in betwen the internet and my computer it will work!

And i have dhcp on for auto IP as the suplier said it should be, but still, it wont work!

Just sounds like you need to renew your ip address from your modem. Thats what happens when you go from using a router and then go back to just using modem. You have to renew ip address. Same thing when you go from using modem to router. You are receiving a different ip address and card isn't recognizing it. type "cmd" in the run box without the quotes. when screen comes up type this without quotes "ipconfig /release" you will see text come up that says all zero's. next type "ipconfig /renew". noter" there is a space between ipconfig and the slash. you might also have to shut down computer, reboot modem, turn computer on, and hopefully it will recognize modem then. Also make sure you are using regular ethernet cables and not crossover cable. Should be labeled if its a crossover cable.
