I recently got a Compaq Evo D510 SFF. The problem is that I can't connect to the Internet at all. Ive tried the following

-Upgrading, uninstalling, and reinstalling the ethernet controller
-Upgrading the chipset
-Removing all firewalls
-IpConfig/Release IpConfig/renew
-netsh winsock reset
-unplugging and replugging the ethernet cable
-reseting modem

Im using a wired connection to a Westell Versalink 327w. I can ping and I get results, but I can't connect to my default gateway. The computer says "Local Area Network Connected" I don't have a recovery disc either. Need help.

does the icon in the notification tray (bottom right) say its connected with limited connectivity?

Open up the network properties (double click the network icon) then select details to determine if your router is assigning a DNS server.

You can ping the modem but not the gateway? This is strange seeing as the modem is your gateway, in basically all cases :P Assuming you "just got" the machine, I guess you have other computers connected to the internet? And they all still work? Or if you don't, can you try another computer on the network?

On the Compaq, go to run, type 'CMD', then 'ipconfig /all'. Of course, without the '. Is something in your IP address, subnet, gateway, and DNS? If you can test another computer, does everything(but the IP) match up?

My connection is not limited. The DNS server which is being assigned is the same as my default gateway .

Everything matches up for the bottom portion but the Windows IP Configuration is different(not sure if that matters)

For the computer that works there is no primary DNS Suffix and the Node type is unknown. The other gives me a primary DNS Suffix plus a DNS suffix search list, and the node type is hybrid.
