Welcome to the forum

inorder to use the broadband on 2 computers u'll have to get a router, you would prolly want a wireless, and if you got the wireless you would have to have 2 PCI/USB recievers for the computer

Actually, yes a wireless router would be a good idea if your computer is in a different part of the house. But you only need one wireless card for the computer that's in the other location. The current family computer should already have an ethernet card, and that you can still hook directly up to the wireless router (they all have 4 wired ports in addition to their wireless ports). Furthermore, you will need to have one computer hooked up to the router in order to configure the wireless network for the computer in the other location in the house. This wireless router will also set-up a wireless network that will allow you to transfer your files between the computers per your second requirement of the post.

if you just wanted to swap files over then you could have used a crossover cable but seeing as you want to share internet aswell it is probably better to just go with a wireless router.

i bought a belkin wireless g router for 7$ and it hasnt crashed ever since i put it up. the crossover cable costs more than that.

:o Wey... Ok, you've proved me wrong... All the router's over here cost like £70 - £80, and my cable cost me £10...

How do I Share optical drives on a network??

I have a laptop computer with a cd-rom, on xp, that I want to connect to another laptop computer that is running windows 2000, but has no working cd drive. How can I let both computers utilise the drive???
