Share the printer via the PC it's connected to. For Windows, use file and print sharing, for Linux use CUPS or Samba (if the LT is Win)

yes the printer icon shows the shared folder sign the hand. but the problem is trying to connect the laptop (wireless) to the desktop. or how to find the connection to the desktop

First, find the IP of the PC that's doing the printer sharing - then on the laptop (or PC you want to print from), Hit Start -> Run and type \\IPADDRESS replaceing IPADDRESS with the actual address. The backslashes tell it to open via file browser verssu http. You should see a folder call Printers and Faxes, or something similar depending on what version of Windows it is...

Then you're not sharing it :)

Are you using XP? If so, right click on the printer and select Sharing.

Check "Share this Printer", make up a share name and click OK. Now try \\IPADDRESS\PRINTERNAME and give it a shot. If it still doesn't work, let me know and I'll try to find a little guide on Windows sharing and security

what operating systems are you using on the computers? If they are both connected to the router, you can set up a LAN, and be able to share resources from one computer to the other. make sure each computer is set up with a name, and in the same workgroup. Windows XP has a wizard for setting up a home network.

no it still says pathway unregonized. iam just wondering how do you get the ip address of the computer maybe i got the wrong address. cheers

You should be able to look at the DHCP settings in your router - otherwise tell me what version of Windows you're running and I'll tell you how to check.

Open a DOS windows in Windows XP (Start, All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt). Enter at the command prompt enter ipconfig, e.g...

C:\>ipconfig

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.123.197
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.123.254

i would like to thank you mikejr for helping me out. The only thing you didn't tell me to do was enter the ip address into the firewall to allow me to connect but the rest helped out and iam really grateful.

JUst to continue on the subject how secure is the connection to outsiders. or the security implications

cheers
