Configuring a new server

Hello. I have a new server, and i need to configure it but i dont seem to get working properly. I would need some help. What should i start first with??

What OS are you running?
What protocols do you want to be enabled on your server?
What support do you want it to have? PHP, MySQL?
If you are running linux and you want an ftp and http server with support for PHP and MySQL databases I have a shell script that can install it for you.
