Computer to TV

Hey All,

Would anyone be able to tell me why the anime/manga I have downloaded on an external HDD does not work (will not recognise the HDD) on the TV, they play from the HDD onto the computer and they will play on the TV (sometimes) from a flash drive.

Of course there is also the problem of formats but that is another issue.

Any Thoughts????

Thanks

What do you mean will not recognize the hard drive? If you have a tv that supports an external hard drive then most likely the tv doesn't support the video type that you recorded. You would have to play those media files from your computer since you seem to have a program that will play them.

Hi Johnb35,

Thanks for your responce, What I am confused about is this I save my anime downloads on an external HDD and I can watch them at anytime on my computer, I can copy them onto a 16gb flash drive and depending on the format watch them on TV......I do not understand though why it will play only one episode in a series of ten episodes, when all were downloaded from the same place at a similar time and all with same extension....any how if I connect my external HDD to my TV the drive is not recognised and the icon that indicates I have a USB connection has also disappeared.

I guess I don't understand why the flash (apart from size) is so different from connecting the external HDD....does the flash drive have a inbuilt program or something that allows it to play on other media????

thanks again

Are you connecting an external hard drive that also has it's own power supply, or does it only plug into the USB port? My first guess would be the USB port on your TV can't provide enough power to power up the hard drive. My second guess would be the hard drive is formatted using a format not compatible with your TV. Try formatting the drive as FAT32 and see if that works.

Hi Wrxguy,

Thanks for your responce, sorry about the delay responding but life happens.

The external HDD I have is a self powered unit, the tv has a "dedicated" HDD/USB connection but when ever the HDD is connected the USB Icon that appears under media on the TV menu vanishes as compared to now where I have a USB stick in there and it works, I have tried formatting in fat 32 and a smaller (1Tb) none of which seem to work.

Thanks again

It sounds like the USB port on the TV can't power the drive. Are there any LEDs on the drive to indicate that it is powered on?
