you don't have to format your drive, but I would deffinately advise it.
To back up CoD, it is the same for both 4 and WaW, but WaW sort of does it when it feels like.
Because WaW is stored on treyarch's end, not yours like CoD4, it works when it wants, it doesn't when it doesn't. Generally, so long as you use the same account (which I imagine you are
) it will be fine, but to be safe, follow the same steps for both:
Go to your CoD folder, if you have a hard copy of each, default pathway is:
C\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty <version (either 4 or WaW)>
If you have it on steam it is c\program files\steam\steamapps\common\call of duty <version>
From there copy the player folder and back it up somewhere, a memory stick, second hard drive, it doesn't raelly matter so long as you have it.
When you have formatted your hard drive and reinstalled CoD, go to that folder path again and paste the player folder in, let it copy and replace over the old folder and you sghould have your profiles in game again.
To format your Drive and reinstall everything, once your new motherboard and CPU is in, get your Windows disc and pop it in your drive, restart your system and let it boot from disc. Once the windows screen is there, click install windows and follow what it says up until you are given a list of drives, NOW THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!:
Before you do this make sure any pictures, videos, program files etc you may need are backed up. Don't worry too much about individual programs, these can be installed again once you have installed windows, so don't back up your anti-virus, don't bac up itunes, don't back up MS office etc, you can just install them again, anything which you can't get again and need, like the pictures and videos that I said, make sure they are backed up on external hard drive, storage drive, DVD, whatever you want to do it on.
Now, having ensured everything you need is backed up, your main drive in the list, you should be able to tell from the size and generally it is C:\, click advanced options at the bottom, highlight your drive and click format, it has a little pink rubber next to it.
Now, with the empty drive highlighted, click install and follow the instructions, should take anywhere from 20 minutes-an hour depending on your new system specs and on the OS you install.
Once it is installed, it will boot up as usual and you can install everything you need again, including CoD
Once it is installed though, make sure you defrag your system beacuse it will be scrambled up well bad. If you don't have a copy of a defragmentation software, a good free one to use is
defraggler, if you are willing to pay, the best payed on I have ever found is
O&O defrag
That should be you set up with your new system, all clean and sparkly and working
