Computer shutting off during boot or will show blank screen

Hello,

My computer has been acting strangely for a while now. Usually I have to try turning it on around 5 or 6 times before it finally stays on without shutting off. Sometimes it makes it all the way to the desktop before shutting off or other times it turns off almost instantly after being turned on. Other times, it will stay on but the screen will always be black.

I've made sure the monitor works, and I think it might be the PSU due to the shutting off. But the black screen makes me think there is a graphics card issue.

My specs are here:
Power Supply: Thermaltake TR2 430W Power Supply (I have some additional electronic voltages/currents for DC Output if needed)
Graphics Card: Evga e-GeForce 8600 GTS
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz Socket AM2 125W Dual-Core Processor ADX6000CZBOX
Motherboard: Gigabyte S-Series GA-M61P-S3 (AMD Socket AM2)
Memory: 3GB (2 GB of which are DDR2, not sure about the other 1 GB)

Now it basically will only turn on but display nothing but black on the monitor.

Any suggestions?

It shutting down usually means there is a heat issue somewhere, CPU or gpu. Have you recently reapplied the thermal compound on the CPU/heatsink?

if you have any other psus try them out, i had a similar issue although it wasn't the same, mine would power on but the fans stayed at 100% and nothing cam onto the monitor ever, and it would either take like 10 tries or it had to be un and replugged to get it to turn on, after changing the psu, which i luckily had gotten one for my build then found it wasn't a good brand but it was a 500w and this only uses max like 250 so it's fine, it worked fine.
