Okey peeps!

I have always been/had interested/interest in computers. I have done 4 years of school & apprentice as an excavator driver :/ which I regret. But I didn't know any better.

I got a thing for fixing computers, I reasonly spended 2 days on trying fixing my friends computer, which ended in him buying a new hdd xD either it was broken or my skills too low :P but I am eager to learn!

My questions is :

Tell some General things about your job

Like:

What is your job? ( do you get to travel or sitting behind a desk )

What school/career do you have?

What is the min pay per year? ( gues you don't want to tell everyone what you earn, but in general )

What do you suggest I can do?

What challenges do you get?

I want to know as mutch as possible befor/if I start a career with computers.

And I am thinking about going to college and take bachelor degree in something with computer service ( nettwork admin, operation of computer systems, just something were I get to fix problems )

what is your opinion about this?

Thx everyone, would help allot ;)

That is a lot of questions there :)

qualifications/pay etc depend on what area you are in, there is a kind of myth that anyone who works in the computer industry knows how to do everything.

I have never met anyone who knows or is expert in every area of computers, there are so many different areas you would waste your life trying to become expert in them all.

I would start by picking the area you are interested in most, building & repairing, programming etc.

Is there different reparing areas?

I know there is different classes like 1,2 & 3

Well the first resource is YOUTUBE, there are endless videos on building a desktop, once you master building desktops you can then transfer that knowledge and skill to laptops, tablets, smartphones etc.

Do you have any friends in this area ? Do you have any places near you that do a basic pc build & repair course ?

Too bad you are not from Croatia (nobody is except me...THAT FUC*ING SUCKS LOL) because if you are,I could teach you everything you want to know.I am in these things for more than 15 years.
Anyway...to make it short,my signature says it all:

-E.R. (medical technician) - This has nothing to do with computers. It was a school for emergency rescue.(Yes I wanted to know those things too lol so I wasted 5 years of my life on it xD).Here is what I mean:

All the rest IS computer related:

-hardware
-software
-Linux/Windows operating systems
-virus/data security
-data recovery
-Valve hammer world editor map modifier
-programming
-and so on...

If you are from Croatia,PLEASE TELL ME BECAUSE I AM MOSTLY SURROUNDED WITH DRUNK JERKS LOL!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

That gets boring over time once you learn how to do it.I like programming FOR computers a lot more rather than repairing computers...But yes...I still do both.I like programming more since I do not make my hands dirty when repairing computer lol hahaha :D.That is one of the reasons why I use blue medical gloves AND the famous dishwasher :):P:D (if it's REALLY dirty rofl) when repairing computers lol:

Of course I use that ONLY if they pay me more if they want their computer(s),laptop(s) or netbook(s) to look AND work like new :D

Anyway I am crazy computer guy so don't try to understand me lol. :D

Important thing is...you must ALWAYS do the job right so that more and more people wants your services and when more and more people want YOU,YOU get payed MORE.At least I do :D
Nobody never complained on me...not a single time. ^^

Unless you have patience with stupid customers, don't go into consumer computer repair.

I would say I am a calm an patient guy. You need to be a service man to work with"Stupid customers" you are not representing yourself but the company you work for.

So that should not be a problem

Tell me that same phrase after you work with them for a while. Good luck to you though :good:

Tell me that same phrase after you work with them for a while...

Hahaha I was thinking EXACTLY THE SAME THING mate!:D
In the beginning you ARE patient, but after some time you just can't do it anymore...I mean you can,but...it's a torture lol.
I had one customer who wanted to have 16 video cameras as a surveillance in his office and of course a software on a PC with which he can look through those cameras. Now watch this...
Not only that customer did not understand a single word while I was explaining him how to use that software...the customer even called me 37 times that SAME DAY and asked me the same thing every time and that was to explain him how to use that software with 16 surveillance cameras.Plus I also opened the software in Visual Studio (it was .NET based) and I translated every word on it from english language TO croatian language and ALSO made some things easier for him,but it did NOT help him at all.So...I wasted 2 days of my life for nothing lol...plus one more when he called me 37 times xD.
To make long story short...in the end I just got tired of him and told him that if he has ANY questions,he should send me E-mail instead of calling me every 20 minutes lol.
One day passed without him calling me,but ALSO I did not get a single E-mail from him (and I was SUPPOSED TO).A day after he calls me AGAIN and asks me SAME questions again.I asked him:

"Why didn't you send me an E-mail as I told you?"

He answered:

"How do I send an E-mail?"

Once he said that, this image example shows EXACTLY what I did in that moment:

I did that...well...because I had no idea what to tell him in that moment.
I don't remember what happened next day lol...Anyway enough about him.
It was just an example of how many customers like that I have and will probably have in the future.

I mean most people offend when you tell them that they are doing something wrong, but those people (mostly customers) HAVE TO understand that they CANNOT be let's say programmers or network administrators operating complex software with many surveillance cameras or doing God knows what IF they do not have ANY knowledge from these things at all.
Most of them do not even know how to send simple E-mail or save an image from a Web page using ANY WEB browser such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox...They do not even know how to copy a file...no offence to anyone, but this is really true.

I know some people (this is torrent related example) who wanted to make good programs in Visual Studio and then sell them for big money.
Not only they BARELY (since their knowledge is total ZERO) illegaly downloaded Visual Studio from torrents, but once they did...there was one case I remember...a user who downloaded Visual Studio was in simple ISO file. The user who barely illegaly downloaded that asked the same question so many times:

"How do I open an ISO?!?!?!How do I install this please help!!!"

And one of the users told him something like the following:

"You people want to make complex applications and earn a lot of money on them and you do not even know what is an ISO.So go on google and write WHAT IS AN ISO."

Of course...the user got offended.Like they all do.

ANYWAY...

The point is...you cannot expect to make something big and complex AND to earn money on it if you do not know absolutely anything about this at all.

I remember many years ago when I started learning these things and those who were VERY GOOD at this told me something like:

"You must be aware that we cannot solve every problem for you.If you want to make a good software, the ONLY way for you to do that is to learn it.You can start by buying a book about basics and read it and as you are going through the book, test everything written in there and try to understand it.Also you can find good amount of tutorials all over the internet. We will always be happy to help you if there is something you do not understand, but you must understad that we cannot make entire software FOR YOU."

So...did I get offended like most of the people DO?
Of course not.I did exactly what the person told me and today I am very good at these things.
Because...there really is no other way but to learn it yourself.

Anyway...I just wanted to tell you all this I guess.:D

I just want to know about different computer jobs, so I know whats out there

Which section are you interested in the most?
