hi i have a prob with my comp crashing while on games and was wondering if anyone could help?
i have a p4 3.8
2 gig of ddr 2
X800 GTO
asus P5Pl2 main board
sweex 650W gold psu

my cpu temp is normally about 40 idle but ive seen it go up to 67-70 during games and usualy crashes not long after this, i have standard heat sink and normal gfx card coolin with 3 cash fans on this.
any info for this would be very much apprecated thanks.

I would say it is related to the CPU temperature. How long has this problem been going on? Ever since you built it? Perhaps the thermal paste needs re-applying...

yea fans seem to be working fine, i brought it custom built and its seem to have been doin it since ive had it, dunno if its just the weather though as its really hot here at mo.. but it really does seem to get hot when i play games.. and extra like 20c.. seems crazy

Is there something inside the computer restricting airflow? Or maybe you forgot about the thermal paste like Rambo said.

yea can see inside cos its got a see through thing, what should i look for as a prob? and lol ill have to check but i aint great with hardware as i said i brought it

Well I would take it back to the guy you bought it from, and ask him to fix it. How long have you had it? If you have left it for a couple of months, then he'll be less inclined to help... I wouldn't recommend opening up the computer unless you know what you are doing.

If the thermal paste had been forgetten about, then I can guarantee you that the CPU wouldn't be working right now. What I said, was that the thermal paste might need to be re-applied again. Thermal paste does have a lifespan, but it varies with the different types you get, how hot the CPU runs, etc...

How hot is it where the computers located? Some fan and heat sinks only work properly at a certain temperature.

only had it like less than a week, doesnt seem to be any wires in the way of fans, 1 thing im unsure about though is in the bios theres this auto overclocking thing i tried puttin it to manual yet theres still loads of autos so i set it to default (auto) think thatll be a prob?

Errm, you will want it to be set to default. If you are overclocking the CPU though, that may be why it is so hot. Is the clock speed of the CPU the same as what it is supposed to be, or is it faster (faster as in a larger number of Mhz)?

EDIT:

An easy way to find out is to download this program: CPU-Z It should be around 3800 Mhz

umm on the ai control thing with temps on it says 3.810 (which is like 10 over) but im not clocking it myself... default is auto for the bios.. i dont have a clue how to manually configure it all... i never like to overclock stuff :( for reasons like this lol

You will have to get in the BIOS setup menu and somehow disable auto overclock. Try pushing the DEL (Delete) key, F1 or F2 when you first turn on the computer (cold boot) and that should get you in the BIOS setup menu.

yea had a look in there, only seems to be the options of auto, manual (even then it has alot of auto settings) and overclock profile for you to choose %'s

Yeah, 3.810 is fine. 10 Mhz over isn't going to be causing problems like this.

What? He isn't overclocking. He bought a P4 3.8 Ghz CPU, and that is what it is running at, 3.8 Ghz.

The best thing you can do is take it back to the guy you bought it from. Tell him the problem, perhaps even show the problem happening. But don't start changing settings because that's when things will go wrong ;)

k, thanks everyone

Glad I could help. Don't leave it here though. You can wait for the rest of the day and see what everyone else here has to say about it :)

k will do i sent an email to the company so have to see if i get a reply. itd be nice if i didnt have to send it back though lol

just used asus prob to check temps and such and it seems to get an error message at 60c cpu, MB temp seems to go to 45 then gets an error, but what seems get to get an error every so often either on a game or not is v core

Mmmmm, nope... I am sure it is to do with cooling though... The motherboard temperature is 45*C, and that, to me, is abnormally high. Although, I'm not sure what people usually get for Motherboard temperatures, mine is usually in the 20's - 30's...

Have you spoken to the people you bought it from? Perhaps sent an email to them?
