hey guys im new at this world of computers and im learning as i go... just need a hand to work something out.
as i start the computer up, it does all the right things doesnt make any out of the normal noises and gets to the desktop and sometimes its like it cant/wont load or boot up any further... i have msn set to open on start up so normal i wait for msn to pop up before i do anything and sometimes it just doesnt get to the stage.... the mouse changes to its normal pointer and if u click on my computer for exampl it will high light but WILL NOT open, no matter what, if u drop the mouse below the task bar to click on start it will change to the hour glass and wont do anything untill u go back above the task bar when it just goes back to your normal pointer and u cant do anything.... the way i get around this is i hold the on/off botton in untill it switches off completely, leave it for a few seconds and turn it back on....
sometimes it will do the exact same thing again and sometimes it will boot up fine, msn pops up and off u go and than sometimes it will boot up fine, msn show up but u have to click on internet explorer for example 20 time before it actaully works it out and opens just the one window......
does any of this make any sense?? lol
please help..
thanks

How old is this computer? I would start by running some malware/virus scans.
Then going to Ccleaner and dump all your old files. Have you added any new hardware or software lately?

nothing new lately... its not like it very old, aetween 12 and 24 months ago it had a 500g hard drive and 1 gig of ram put in and work fine from than up untill about a month ago when it got a really bad virus so i formated and reinstalled my stuff, back my fines up on a spare hard drive i had and scanned them before they went back on and it started doing this shit on start up so i thought maybe another virus so formatted again and did stupid amonths of virus checks again and makes no difference....

Have you tried starting up in Safe Mode to see if you have the same unusual problem? You can also goto Start Menu > Run and type in MSCONFIG and setup what progz/services run on startup. Also, people forget the obvious step of going to the Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs and check if you see anything "weird" in there.
