Computer getting stuck in sleep mode

Maybe like once every two months my computer gets stuck in sleep mode. It will fall asleep but will not wake up. I have to give it a hard shut down once and upon restart it tries to resume my session. I then shut it down a second time and it gives me the option to resume previous session or to boot regularly. I tell it to not restore what ever was going on when and to boot normally.
Any clue to what may be causing this?

What operating system and computer specs.

Also is it go to sleep or hibernate? it seems to be hibernating but not shuting down.

i sometime have the same problem. installed windows 7 pro retail. sometime it does and sometime it does not. (most wakes though). Play with the mouse for two minutes and good to go. Other times i have to do a hard reset.
Im interested......

Do you overclock? If so that is your issue.

Every PC I overclocked can never be brought out of sleep mode again unless you immediately get out of sleep mode after going into it. It just continuously boots up and down till you reset or unplug it.

Cpu- I7 920
Ram- 6GB corsair
Mobo- Asus P6t Se
HDD- Caviar green 1 TB
GPU- Radeon 4770

I dont OC what so ever, no need to. When my comp slows in the future then maybe Ill do it.

Edit- And yes, im running windows 7 x 64
