Computer froze...doesn't work.

Weird thing happened. Surfing the web and my computer froze. I ended up having to turn it off. When I rebooted, nothing happened. It turned on but nothing on the screen at all. It made a clicking noise which I thought for sure was the click of death. But it turned out to be one of the dvd drives. Now I'm not sure what's going on.

Any ideas? How can I troubleshoot this?

Unhook the drive that is making noise and try booting up again. Also it may help to temporarily unhook the hard drive to see if it boots up.

At this point, I don't know if it's booting up or not. The monitor is receiving no signal from the computer. It's hooked up and plugged in, but the light on the monitor is orange not blue. Is this a motherboard/video issue?

Have you done this yet? If not, please do so and report back. It may also help to reset the cmos by removing the motherboard battery after unplugging the power supply and then press the power button on the case a few times then wait a minute and plug everything back in and try booting up.

Yes, I tried disconnecting all with same result. Also removed battery as suggested and nothing changed. Thanks for the help here I appreciate it.

You may have to take it in to have it diagnosed. Try removing and replacing the memory as well.

Do you have another monitor you could try? Its a long shot... Otherwise try to swap the video card. With hardware you just have to swap until you find the problem.

Motherboard installed...same problem.

Could it be the power supply? There's nothing else to change other than that.

????

Well, I need more help here. I've tried changing just about everything now...still same problem.

I've tried a different monitor and cord, motherboard, and power supply. I've tried disconnecting the HD and booting but I get the same result.

Any ideas? I'm stumped. No signal to monitor at all.

Have you made sure that all the wires inside your comp are firmly connected to where there suppose to be? Check the voltage of your power supply as well. Hell it could even be the surge protector causing your problems.
