Computer for architect

I decided to write hear because I need help.

I’m studying the 4th year of my degree, architecture, and I have to buy a new portable computer because the other one I had has been broken. The technician said me that it’s better to buy another one instead of trying to arrange it.

The problem I’ve got now is that I haven’t got enough knowledge about computers. I wonder if anyone could help me.
I need the computer for working with Autocad, Photoshop, 3d Studio… and similar programs.

For autocad, you definately need something with a good deal of RAM, as you would with photoshop. You need to go for something with a fairly good processor and 8-16gb RAM probably. Wait for some of the others on here to post, they have a much better insight than me :)

Ideally, you want to look at something along the lines of:
Thinkpad W series
Precision series
Elitebook series

For auto CAd you will not beat the Quadro GPUs for rendering.

I still think that you would be safer with more RAM. Even if you buy the sticks yourself and upgrade it once you have the machine.
