Hi
I bought a cheap PSU about 8 months ago and then 3 days ago I turned on my computer and there was a pop and a flash from the PSU and my PC wouldnt turn on.
I bought another PSU (a decent one by corsair for £50+) after having learnt my lesson...I hooked it all up correctly and pressed the on switch...nothing it completely lifeless.
Is my computer fried by the previous PSU do you think?
I have no experience in this so would appreciate any information from the learned people on here...
thanks a lot

Hard to say without knowing what your system is but you are sure that you have everything hooked?

Does the PSU have the switch turned on? Plugged in?

I just unhooked the old PSU and plugged the new one in...CPU, 24 pin, graphics card, drives, on switch etc etc
Its just completely dead, nothing, nada
I've built PC's and replaced PSU's before never no problems...I suppose its just been fried by the old PSU unless I'm missing something...:(
Yeah its switched to the I not the O and I used a brand new lead as well as the old lead just incase it was the lead

Yeah would say the cheap psu didn't stop the motherboard from blowing up. Would put the corsair in another system to make sure it works though.

What make/model was the cheap PSU if you don't mind me asking.

Hope it only took out your motherboard. :/

I forget now but I got it for £17 lol
We all learn lessons

Edit*
I spoke to a very experienced IT professional last night and he said its probably the CPU so I got a new one off ebay for £12...worth a try for £12...if that don't work I will have to buy another PC
