Computer continuously re-boots on start-up

When I try to start-up my 2.6 p4, it re-boots twice(the only thing that comes up on the screen is the pentium 4 logo and the computer manufacturers logo), then asks to restart in safe mode, etc., and if I don't do anything, it just black screens. It doesn't help to actually reboot in safe mode either, the result is the same, black screen and no other activity. I have done zero mods and haven't added any hardware. Any ideas???

Sounds like maybe your boot sector is corrupted. If you don't get a better answer, I would try to repair XP with install CD if you can.

Cheers.

yeah you got a bootloop, you'll need to do a repair installation or format and reinstall windows

New sympton: I now get no video to monitor at all, but fans still run, harddrive spins, and the cd drawer will open and close. However, I have no idea what's going on without video...

OK, fellas, I have a little more info. After the second try at booting, the lights on the front turn orange instead of the normal green. I can only attempt to reboot after unplugging the computer for 10 minutes or so, then it goes from the screen with the logos on it to a screen stating a CMOS checksum error-defaults loaded. It says hit f8 to enable system configuration, f9 to select booting device after POST, f1 to continue, or DEL to enter setup. I have entered setup, but the screen goes blank after app. 10 seconds, then trys to reboot, then orange lights, fans sounds, and nothing else. I have put the restore disk in the cd drive, but seemingly do not have enough time before shut down to get it running. If it is a boot loop as suggested above, what advice, given the aforementioned time constrainsts, does anyone have that can get the things going again??
