Computer Buy (class assignment)

Morning fellas, I'm just looking to get some feedback here... A good chance I will select this for my assignment (PCI-E) However, I just wanted to see what others thought. do many of you have a cooler on your PCI-E? (just curious)

I am currently looking up computers parts online via newegg to complete an assignment that we didn't get to finish yesterday.

Below is the mother board that we have selected to work with.

Below is the PCI Express Video Card that I am looking at.
Min is to at least be 512mb (so going with a gig)

I've never build a computer nor have I really looked online for computer parts... This is an assignment to help us understand what parts are needed to build a computer and I was looking at PCI-E Video Card as a next part.

Thanks

By PCI-E do you mean video card? If so, all video cards come with a cooler of some sort.

What you need to build a computer:

CPU (Central Processing Unit)

Mobo (Motherboard or Mainboard)

RAM/Memory (Random Access Memory)

GPU/Graphics Card (Graphics Processing Unit)

SSD (Solid State Drive)/ HDD (Hard Disk Drive)

PSU (Power Supply Unit)

That's what you need to build a computer. It's really just a big lego set that has less parts. You will still need an operating system and software for a functioning computer. (or a useful one at least). You can substitute windows with a flavour of Linux, such as Ubuntu.

Also, Video Card performance is not determined by the VRAM size, that just defines what sort of resolution and games you can use. Newer cards come with anywhere from 1GB to 3GB. That means you can use a resolution higher than 1920x1080 (such as 2560x1440) with Anti-Aliasing (commonly called AA) and Anisotropic Filtering (AF). AA smoothes the jagged edges of pixels and AF clears up textures that are on a steep angle or further away from in-game so they have the same level of detail close up as they do further away.

Hello likin, Thank you for the reply.

Yes, I was referring to Video Card. I already have a CPU, Motherboard, Power Supply Unit, Hard Drive listed as well with the Ram

I am not sure about the GPU though.. Maybe the instructor forgot to mention it, but I would still need to select a Mouse+Monitor...

of course this is just an assignment to help us get familiar with the parts needed into building a PC, but I just wanted to make sure I was going towards the correct direction with picking a Video Card as listed.

:good:

Thanks again for the reply

I decided to go with another PCI-E 2.0

:D

Are you required to have a video card? And if so, then what is the plan for the computer, as we can probably save you some money on them.

If your building, and just using it as a normal everyday computer with no games, then you don't need a GPU as the processor will have intel HD2000/3000 on it, and that motherboard will allow you to use it. That will be fine for anything that is not Gaming, Rendering, or 3D blueray movies.
