Compatibility Check - Processor/Motherboard

First off, I know all of this hardware is old and outdated. I just need something to tide me over until I can actually spend and build a real machine.

That said I'm trying to upgrade my current processor (Intel Pentium E2140). My motherboard is a IPILP-LC (Lancaster8) which came in a Compaq Presario SR5250NX. I'm trying to upgrade my processor to an Intel Celeron D Processor 365. I've done all of the compatibility checks myself and everything seems to work but I'm new at this and thought I'd get a second opinion before I spend anything.

Thanks for any help in advanced!

It would be, but the processor you have is more powerful. Take a look at this chart:

The e2140 has a score of 900, and if you look at this chart:

And do a search for "3.6", its getting a 404 score.

Just because it has a high core clock doesn't mean its faster. New generations of CPUs have different architecture and are faster, even at slower speeds. What is your budget for a new CPU?

Fastest CPU it can handle is a core 2 duo e4400:

Well I suppose if the E4400 is the fastest my board can handle, then the cost of that will be my budget.

Thank you for the quick response and saving me from a useless purchase.

No problem. There are no new ones, at least on newegg, so you'll have to buy used. CPUs generally don't go bad so it'd be a good purchase, especially at $30.
