College network

i jus started college and the internet connection isn't pretty damn fast. But i guess there is a 35kb upload cap so i get latency's on counterstrike of like 800+. any way around the cap? also they make us authenticate our connection every 2 hours. basically its just signing in to make sure we should be allowed to have access to their servers. any way to get a program that might take care of this authentication thing for me? cuz it gets really annoying.

any wireless networks in the area? Get a nice antenna and look around :)

that would be conseder stealing serves.

as for a way around the cap problem there isn't. if they requer you anthecat every 2 hours they will reset the cap at that time. ask the adm if they would raise the cap for you.

or borrowing, depending on which way you look at it :P

yea, theres nothing you can do about that legally. and i dont think theres anything illegally too.

well, the school is wireless almost everywhere. but there is no way i could ever pick up any connection outside this school. also i'm guessing the cap is there to create the incredibly high latency's so people don't play online games all the time. so i just wanted to know if there was any way around that without the school knowing. guess not so thanks anyways. also, is there a program that exists that would log me in automatically every 2 hours?

Ask the computer guy there to make one or just have a special thing for your account to be logged in for a longer period of time. Thats the only thing I could think of.

latency and speeds are different. you can have 56k modem with a low latency. typically latency means that perhaps your going throught a lot of switches, hubs, etc. i have heard that each switch you pass through adds another 20ms of latency. speed is how much you can cram down a connection, latency is how fast a single bit can get down a connection.

dont get me wrong, speed and latency are related tho. but the reason for the cap is probably so no one can hog all the bandwidth by creating a p2p server or something like that. and the latency might be due to long cable length, or the path your packets take to get to your gaming server. . .
