College Major

Hey I am currently a college student and I'm thinking of switching my degree to Computer Information and Networking Technologies (CNIT). I have built my own desktop computers and understand the hardware inside and how hard drives and servers work. I guess the only thing I'm worried about that I'm not great at is programming. I know basic HTML and commands for it but C#, C++, Java, and things like are on my list of classes to take.

I have a few friends who have went through the classes and graduated and said as long as I can pass calculus and calculus 2 I should be fine (which I can do that). But what I am really worried about is the programming courses. The teacher I will have I have heard just goes in and starts programming on a projector to the entire class as if we know the material already? I guess what I'm really asking is, is it something that is easy to learn ? I have my friends to help me if I'm desperate but I know coding can be a bit hard sometimes and frustrating but the results of it are great once you finish your product. What would be some suggestions on how I could maybe sharpen up my coding skills before entering the class, or is programming something that will keep me from being successful if I don't figure it out?

You'll probably want the language in question for dummies book. Programming sucks, and I avoid it if all possible.

Reading introductory books to each programming class you need to take will help. And watching videos like Educator Vids on YouTube can help to get a different perspective. There are sites like W3Schools that have been a god send for me. Learn to live the class, don't treat the topics as just another class that you have to deal with. That's the fast road to failure. As for the classes, calc is so easy I was able to learn it with my eyes closed.... its easy. Talk to people who have taken the class before and passed with a good grade and ask them what they used to study.

One of the best ways to do well in some of those more difficult classes comes down to your mindset. Have a positive mindset towards the class, no matter what. Do not allow yourself to be worried you wont "get it" or allow yourself to consider dropping.

When I had to take chem I was freaking out before the class started. I had taken chem before and FAILED spectacularly, and it was freaking me out. I wanted chem to be fun and interesting, but I was scared to death of failing it AGAIN! But when the prof walked in, she asked each person why they were taking the class. When she got to me I pushed the neg crap out of my mind and made myself say (and made myself believe) "I have to take this as part of my degree. But I am really looking forward to learning more about the world. Chemistry is fascinating and I want to know all I can". No joke, that's what I said... in class and in front of everyone.

Just to pass the class I was in the chem tutoring room EVERY SINGLE DAY and I was in the tutoring lab every minute it was open (as Dr. Corino can attest to!). But I passed the class with an A. It was the hardest class I have ever had to take. Making myself take a positive mindset helped me to do well throughout the class.

And for god sakes talk to the prof! Most people NEVER DO THAT!

Yeah I'm familiar with W3schools I've used that site many times before, and I will have to look at it with a positive attitude like you said. Thank you for your advice :P
