I am running vista on a laptop system and using windows media player 11.0 and Im having issues with playing certain types of files. Specifically .wav files and so I went to the microsoft downdoad page and selected the latest codec package updates for media player 11 on vista and it tried to download but an error pops up that states its not compatible with my operating system. Gosh Im so tired of work arounds for vista it makes me sick. Is there anyone out there that has a good solution for this problem?

I downloaded the above but no difference. It seems that media player 11 vista will also not play MPEG or MP4 files. I tried downloading the latest patch codec package from microsoft but during the install get an error that states incorrect version for my operating system. Dont you just friggin love microsoft! I give up. Is there a good free player out there that I could install?
