CMEDIA, crap

Right, to cut a long story short, i got my new case, which some of you might know about. Transferred all my bits over to the new one, took it upsatirs, plugged it in, began to boot, halted at windows loading thingy. Formatted, installled XP, installed graphics drivers blah blah blah.

One thing left, SOUND. Or perhaps the lack of it. I have a crappy CMEDIA CMI8738 chip sound card, PCI. I put the CD in and it reports that i do not have the sound card on my system so it wont let me install the drivers for it. its wrong becasue i quite blatantly do have that card and it was working before the format.

Any ideas, CMEDIA's website is complete load of crap. I have the up to date drivers and upon trying to install them the card has disappeared out of DEVICE MANAGER and is nowhere to be seen, it used to be in OTHER DEVICES or UNKOWN or wotever it is.

Any help would be great as i have no sound.....\

Do you have onboard sound? i would try and use that. As for the PCI card, have you tried taking it out and putting it in a difference PCI slot? And does your PC recognize an audio device in the Device Manager?

Hi geoff, thanks for the reply. Yeh, its in Deve Manager as "Multimedia Audio Controller", but no matter how i try to force it to accept the .inf file it wont have it, and the automated setup.exe file on the CD wont work either. It states that i do not have the soundcard in question so it cant conitnue.

Yeh i do have onboard but there are no drivers installed for that either, and i have no idea where the CD is, also its real crappy, like distortion on every gunshot in CS, its not even passable for normal PC usage.

Ive been sitting in this chair for about 3 hours non stop trying to get this bloody thing to work. It really annoying, it worked before the reformat, i would install it into a different PCI slot but i onyl have 1 spare and if i put it in there i get LOADS of IRQ conflicts and i dont really want them. I tried that when i installed it before i had formatted....

Still at a loss as to what to do??

Swap the cards around with one in a different slots. Also, try taking the car out, boot into windows as you would normlaly, shutdown windows, plug the card in and see what happens. And have you tried uninstalling it from device manager.

BTW, did you buy the card from ebuyer? Becuase im pretty sure its the same as mine, and for the price you payed (assuming you got it from ebuyer) you really cant complain about its crappiness. And i actualy find it to be pretty good.

I got mine from eBay for about £7, i know its good for the money, when it works that is.

Wel,its too late to do anything like swapping cards out now so i'll hve to do that tomorrow after noon. I will try uninstalling from device manager and rebooting, thanks, ill be back.

ok, well, uninstalling from device manager and rebooting didnt work the install program still reports that i do not have the correct sound card, which is a load of crap.

I will swap the carsd around tomorow but will it actually do anything, i mean this current setup was fine before i formatted, whats changed now, all i did was change cases, bloody PC's
