Cheap Subwoofer + Music = Bad?

I know many people claim that any x.1 systems sounds good and x.0 systems sound crappy. However, after listening to my cheap/old Creative 5.1 speaker system, I'm starting to feel that a subwoofer in a cheap system kind of ruins music.

With the equalizer set at default, music seems to be overwhelmed by the boomy subwoofer. Midrange, on the other hand, is almost completely non existent.

After playing with the equalizer for a bit, I came up with a drastic setting that seems to make music sound a bit better.

this setting brings out the midrange vocal sounds, and takes away the murky low sub woofer noise.

I guess I'm just ranting a bit, but does anyone else agree with me? (or am I just a freak ).

low murky subwoofer noise? what is this that you speak of?

If you want you can always try to Itunes "perfect" equalizer setting, i use it and its wonderful."perfect"
i put quotes because nothing is perfect :)

Like the sounds between 64 and 125 hz on the itunes equalizer. Basically everything that's not deep enough to sound good on a woofer, but not high enough for cheap midrange speakers to pick up.
