Cheap cheap digital camera

My friend's dad is a hunter and uses cameras around the woods to take pictures and has a microSD card in them. Lately, unfortunately, he lost a couple of dogs because there were bears in the woods. He wants a digital camera just to view the SDcards. Doesn't need to take pictures, just needs a reliable camera with a bigish screen so he can see if there are any bears nearby. Thanks.

I think the point is that he wants something portable to view the pictures on in the field. A card reader won't help much if it needs a computer to view the pictures.

The problem is that reliable and cheap really don't go hand in hand. If you want something cheap, this should work fine. If you want something more durable you could get a decent used water/shock resistant camera for around $100. If the big screen is more of a priority you might look at battery powered digital picture frames.

Exactly, he's an old school dude and doesn't own a laptop. No taking pictures, just something that will work in the field. So basically any cheap name-brand camera should be good enough for just viewing pictures?

Any cheap digital camera that allows the use of SD Cards would be fine. (I'm pretty sure all digitals use sds...)

I'd suggest looking for a used camera on Ebay, or on craigslist if you're in the US.

Apparently his dad wants a bigger display. See thread in laptops/tablets/smartphones. His username is charmander.

One thing I would recommend if he just wants to view the pictures is to get a digital picture frame. It can read the card and has a good size screen, any cheap digital camera is going to skimp on the size of the preview screen...

Ohhhh, great idea, I'll pass it along.

Tablets or Small PC

A tablet or small PC will work for what he is trying to do, luckily I know a little about tablets (not a lot to learn in the first place) and photography... out in the field a lot of professionals use small tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab or even the smaller Android tabs! (Link to some random website selling it) http://www.ecrater.com/p/11992559/10-inch-google-android-pad-tablet

Hope he finds something that works (BTW i haven't read all the replies yet...) :):):)
