Changing Audio-In To Audio-Out

Someone told me that it is possible to re configure your audio ports so that its possible to change your mic and line-in port to both be line-out ports. The reason I need to do this is to hook up surround sound without having to buy a new soundcard.

PNP Device ID MODEMWAVE\0\{B99A340C-E042-405E-B6EE-66D524286B90}

That is my current sound card and CODEC information. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

dont u go to audio configuration then speaker configuration the u click on the number of speakers and then u plug everything in

Yes, I just came across a topic with a guide...Says to plug front speakers to line out, rear speakers to line in and subwoofer/center to mic in....I did that as the guide suggested. I also went to audio properties and set it for 5.1 surround sound. I still cannot hear sound out of center, rear or the subwoofer speakers. wth :mad:

I've seen some older sound cards that just had 3 jacks. In 5.1 mode the line-in and mic ports change over to outputs. Otherwise, unless the hardware supports it, I don't think you could switch the inputs to outputs.

The info you gave us really doesn't provide much info on your soundcard. Do you have all the drivers installed for it? Where are you setting it to 5.1?

My computer is a Dell so I went there for the latest drivers...wrong? Anywayz Im setting the 5.1 from the control panel>sounds and audio devices>volume>advanced.....if that is wrong where should i actually be doing this and is there a certain site i should check for updated drivers?:confused:

I figured that's what you were doing... I could be wrong but I beleive that's just...I don't know, for looks. I mean I can select 7.1 for my laptop!

What you need is to find the drivers and software that goes with the sound card. Many times there are special programs that allow you to setup your outputs and what not as you want. That, or sometimes just going to sound properties, click options, proporties, and then see if your outputs are listed in the Volume Controls

ok, so no clue to where i could find latest drivers for my pos onboard card? Or maybe even just a program to change the settings...thank you

BTW: should i be looking for a SigmaTel driver or one for UniModem?
