Change sound from computer to HDMI cable

I currently have my computer hooked up to both my monitor (dvi) and tv (Hdmi). When I extend the desktop and play a game or video on the tv-the only sound that I have right now comes from the computer speakers. Do I need to un-hook the DVI connector to get sound through the hdmi cable or is there a setting somewhere that I can change in windows? Thanks-computer specs are in sig.

Ok I did something stupid---I disabled the onboard sound as playback---thinking it would switch to hdmi--but now it's not listed as a playback device. I've re-installed the ac 97 drivers from realtek--check to make sure that the bios list the ac 97 as sound -what should I do next??

Control panel then sound then playback tab, select hdmi as your default device. It will say amd hdmi if you are using the hdmi on your video card.

Did you get the onboard sound working again?
