Center channel help, Altec Lansing 5100

I have a SB Audigy Platinum sound card that supports 5.1 and my speakers are Altec Lansing 5100, so everything should work together. However, I don't get any sound through my center channel when in 5.1 mode (speaker system and software both switched to 5.1).

The 'center mix' switch is on, so I know that's not the problem, and I get sound through the center channel when in StereoX2 and 4.1Gaming modes, so I know it's plugged in correctly and is functional.

Now here's the thing; when I run Creative's Sound Mixer 5.1 speaker test, there is a woman's voice that says the location of each speaker in turn. When she says "center" it is a muffled sound that comes from the subwoofer instead of the center speaker.

Does it sound like it's a faulty equipment problem or just a setting somewhere is wrong?

Damn, so no one has any thoughts on this at all?

If it helps, I know that the center and the sub use the same line to feed them their signals. I figure there's probably an internal crossover that sends the higher frequencies to the center channel (there's software that came with my Audigy that allows me to choose the crossover frequency), so it's occurred to me that maybe the crossover is broken.

I also thought it might be possible that the 'center mix' switch is broken.
