Hello all, i am in the process or re-wireing part of my house and have decided to go ahead and re run all cablelines, along with adding ethernat and fiber lines (one of the bundle cables) my question today is, should i use Cat6 or cat5e? Is it wirth dropping almost an extra $75 (Which i dont mind) to upgrade the wire from 5e to 6? My primary use of this will be for internet (cable), data transfer along the network (at times up to 30GB) and for the usual networking right now.

What is the future of Cat6 VS Fiber?

thanks

Well Fiber you can't really hook it up to individual computers but it is the fastest and has the least interference.

Ethernet's maximum length is 100meter and fiber there are different kinds but it is a lot longer than that.

Cat5e can go up to 100mbps and Cat6 can go up to 1000mbps.

If you plan on leaving the wires in there for a long time I'd go with Cat6 because maybe eventually you can upgrade to that.

ok, now to double check on this, cat6 is backwards compatible with cat5e devices? I can replace the cat 5e wiring currently running on the ground in the house with the cat6 and not have any interfearence correct
