i was reading the lan parth thing and i think it mentioned a cat5 wire???....
it says theyll provide the wires but iam bringing my own ethernet cable...
will that work

In your case cat5 and ethernet cable are the same ( the cables you are talking about are the same, But there are other ethernet cables Cat6 etc which is different ).

if i'm not mistaken cat 6 is faster or will allow you to go a longer distance or go faster over a longer distance or something of that nature, i wouldn't know why it wouldn't be backwards compatible so it would work fine too

by the way i like ur avatar g4m, that was a good episode

CAt5 is no longer recognized by the IEEE. The newer cat5e is however.

Cat5w os normaly used for up to 100Mbits per second

Cat6 is used for the 1Gigabit per second line.

Ethernet cables are usualy cat5e cables.

cat5e and cat6 are both gigabit capable wires, both use RJ45 connectors and both use 4 pair wire schemes, the only difference is CAT6 runs at 250Mhz bandwidth and CAT5e runs at 100Mhz bandwidth
