Care to help a clueless newby with my router?

I just got a router and installed it on my PC, but I cant get my laptop to go online. It sees the router but never connects. Any help?
 
It says it is obtaining IP adress and then says

it is connected but when you open up the internet it wont load the page. It shows that I am connected though. Meaning the timer is still going saying I am connected.
 
It just means you are connected to the router, doesn't mean you are connected to the internet. Did the router come with in install cd? Sometimes you need to use to set up the router to receive internet.
 
Yes. I used the CD to load it on the pc. Am I that dumb, that I need to load it on the laptop also?
 
No, once you get the router setup to let internet pass through it to a desktop computer, its just a matter of hooking up more computers to the router. Are you using wireless for the laptop? Most likely you have a security issue with the security key. Do you have the wireless secured with a wep key for instance?
