Can't use microphone

Hi.

I've got problems with mic. In Control Panel - Sounds and Audio Devices I can choose under 2 Optionsfor microphone, 1 is the soundcard name and the other is Modem device (modem card is not plug into this PC anymore). Doesn't matter which one I'll choose, microphone doesn't work.
Any ideas?

in this situation, i would try downloading yahoo messenger and set up my microphone there... theyre pretty accurate..showing whats wrong with it ( either your soundcard or microphone )

reinstall the soundcard drivers see if that works
