Can't reinstall Audio driver

I was using Creative Sound Blaster PCI128 audio card on my comp.
I've recently had all traces of it (drivers etc) as well as my internal-motherboard audio card disappear for no apparent reason. (Maybe recent installation of Skype had something to do with it?)
The biggest problem is - windows doesn't allow me to reinstall audio drivers!!!
I've tried reinstalling drivers from my CD installation application, but it just quits without showing any error message.
I've tried manually installing the driver through the windows hardware installation wizard thing, but after selecting the driver from the disk the wizard reports: "The class installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this device"

Repairing windows did not help, and i do not wish to completely reinstall it at this time. Can anyone help me get my audio card to work?

Have you done a recent sweep for viruses and adware/spyware? This sounds like more of an issue related to that than Skype (because my friends and I all have it, and have never heard of this issue...) Anyway, try that and try to reinstall again. If that doesn't work, we might need to move on to something more aggressive. :)

Unfortunately I don't have an actual anti-virus scanner on my comp, I only have spybot - so i ran that and found no problems. I've also manually checked the list of running programs and killed off every non-vital process - this didn't help. I also ran an online virus scanner, which didn't detect anything. Finally i downloaded an anti-trojan shield program and ran that, and again didn't find anything.
Of course i can't be sure, but it seems like i'm virus free.

maybe u coud post a hijack this log in the other thread

Ok i still have no idea what the problem was, but it looks like it was solved.
I pulled the audio card out and then plugged it back in. Windows automatically requested new drivers and accepted the ones I had. It seems to work now although the sound it produces is somewhat different than before . Also whereas earlier, even if windows completely froze the sound was still comming out loud and clear, now every minor windows slowdown immidiately causes the sound to break/stop/skip/pause.

Anyway thanks for effort.
