Can't network my 2 pc's

I don't know much about networks, so I would appreciate any advice.
Both computers are running windows xp and are sharing an internet connection but they can't share files or even see each other.

The network troubleshooter didn't find any problems, but computer 2 cant ping computer 1. The attempts all time out.

how are they sharing a internet connection wireless router? router? Do you have things shared? have you tried typing in the login name for the computer in internet explorer "//computer-name"

Assuming they are sharing via a router and can both access the internet, you need to make sure both computers are in the same workgroup. To do so, right click on My Network Places and select properties. On the left, click on "setup home or office network" (something similar). When prompted to name the workgroup, type whatever you want to name it but just make sure you name it exactly the same on both computers. That should do it. Also, windows firewall could be preventing it.
