Can't install Onboard LAN help!

I have a AMD64 3000+, i just reformatted my Windows XP 64-bit Edition and put on regular Windows XP Pro. My motherboard is an Abit KV8-MAX3, and like usual I'm having trouble getting my internet to work after i reformat. I do not have the cd that came with the motherboard so i went to the Abit website for my motherboard > http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/drivers.php?categories=1&model=150 . Well I downloaded the Onboard LAN (3Com Gigabit) and extracted it, and in it there is not a setup file or anything. Where do I put these files and what do I do to get my broadband to work on 32-bit Windows XP? Any input is greatly appreciated.

look in bios and make sure the onboard LAN is enabled, im not sure if your mobo has this option, but mine did and it took me a while to realise.

yea i checked on that before but didn't see anything. i just looked again and this is all it says:

Onboard LAN Controller - Enabled
-Onboard LAN Boot ROM - Disabled

I tried enabling the second, and still nothing. So I just changed it back to default, I don't think I installed these files right. I just need a little guidance to where to put them.

okay, right click "my computer", click the hardware tab, then click device manager. under network adapters, what does it say?

under network adapters it says 1394 Adapter and the driver for it is system32\drivers\nic1394.sys. It says I'm connected to at 400MBS but there is no in or out.

Also under other devices it says Ethernet Controller and has a yellow question mark to the left of it. There is no driver for it installed.

I'll try those drivers you posted now.

okay i just looked at that driver on there, its the one i already downloaded. it's also the same one as on the abit site, so there is no difference i dont think. I just don't know how to install it.

right click it and click uninstall. then click the action tab and scan for changes in hardware. try this. if not then post back on here and we'll do something else
