Can't get surround in Windows Media Player

I have an Audigy SE sound card. I can get surround sound in all games that support surround, and when I run the individual channel test through windows, all 5 of my speakers work, but I can't figure out how to get music to play in surround on windows media player. I have my settings on 5.1 surround in the speaker settings also. There must be something I am missing, please help.

Time to reinstall WMP. Which version are you running? I dumped WMP 11 and stuck with 10 for XP use. Vista comes with 11 included.

At the moment, I am using 11, but I was unable to get surround sound to work with version 10, and the version which comes with my original windows installation disk (which I believe is 9) and I also have just re-installed 11. I have never been able to get it to work right, which is why I believe that I'm just missing a setting.

The settings for headphones, 2 1/2, 5.1 are determined by the speakers settings. This is one reason why I keep a desktop shortcut due to going back and forth between 5.1 and headphones in particular. The problems besides the music files you are trying to play not even being in true stereo format for the 5.1 to further separate that into more channels would be with the Creative software by the "sound" of it.(never mind the puns.)

Got time on your hands to uninstall and then reinstall the software for the card if the problem can't be determined by Creative's own diagnostic utility? For both versions of XP installed here the only initial problem was corrected to see WMP 10 go on for XP Pro. Yet even with WMP 11 on the Vista installation as well as WMP 10 for both XPs the speaker settings always work. That seems to point at the Creative software.
