Can't get headphones to work right

I have a Creative XtremeGamer soundcard, a set of Logitech x-530 speakers and a pair of logitech headphones that has a microphone. Whenever I plug the headphones directly into the soundcard, I can get sound out of them.

When I go into the speaker settings in Windows and I change it to headphones, the sound will quit working. But if I leave it on 5.1 speakers, I get sound from the headphones.

I have them plugged into the right port on the soundcard. What is going on here?

Because when I open BFBC2, the sound would quit working.

I think I got it figured out. I had to plug the headphone connector into the speaker port and the microphone connector into the correct port on the soundcard. Kind of a pain since I have to have the speaker pretty close to the back of the soundcard.
