Can't download iTunes

Daughter has HP computer, a couple months old, and cannot download iTunes. It goes through the process of downloading, but when it starts to install, error window pops up, saying issue with Windows Installer. Her computer is networked through a router. She's researched and tried everything, but nothing works. The Geeks at Best Buy could not figure it out. What may narrow it down is that her other computer, directly connected to the router in another room, also cannot download iTunes. So I'm figuring that it may have something to do with the router's security? It's probably a simple one-click fix, but she (and I) have spent numerous hours using various configurations, disabling firewalls, etc., trying to find an answer.
Would appreciate any insight or help.

If it's a windows installer error then it shouldn't be due to firewall or router. Is her account locked down by any chance? Have you try running it with administrator privileges?

^^forget that

Lets ensure windows secure files are in tact, windows installer is working etc.

Do this:

  1. in the windows search bar type cmd and then right click on cmd and run as administrator
  2. then type in the command prompt (with space):sfc /scannow, when finished restart
  3. then download and install this: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=120486
  4. then update windows
  5. then install itunes
