Can't detect sound card

Since switching to Windows 7 my audio doesn't work (I've been trying to fix this for days, searching and following tutorials). It says I have "No audio output device installed". So it thinks I don't have a sound card. I've tried downloading drivers but I don't know what driver to get. I have gone to the intel website and they scanned for what audio card I need, and they couldn't detect my sound card at all. Everything I have used can't find my sound card. I reset my windows 7 hoping it would work but it didn't. I still have no audio, and I did before Windows 7.

I just tried installing realtek hd audio driver for windows 7 but it didn't do anything. I keep trying more programs to figure out what driver I need but it never works because they can't detect that I even have a sound card installed. This is extremely frustrating. So somebody please to to point me in the right direction.

it would help us if you gave us some more information. what type of card are you using? is it integrated, if so what kind of motherboard are you using?

I have no idea, that's why I have been trying to run programs than can tell me. I'm on a Dell Dimension 4700, I'm pretty sure it has an integrated sound card because I've done a few visual checks and it doesn't look like you can take it out. So let's just go with integrated. The motherboard is OEM, intel processor if that counts for anything.

I went in bios earlier and it was enabled, I disabled and re-enabled but it didn't help. Went to the dell site as well and found out my sound card doesn't have any drivers compatible with Windows 7. Despite this I downloaded the driver anyway (even though it was already installed) and right clicked the setup.exe file and did Properties> compatibility >Windows XP SP2 and I clicked setup and it went through and said "You already have this file would you like to replace?" and I just clicked yes to all and I now have sound. Compatibility settings are def a good thing. Thanks guys.

Contact Dell Support and ask for a link to the sound card software/drivers for windows 7 if available.
