Cant boot PC?

Hi, i had windows 7 on my computer and wanted to install linux as a second OS from a USB stick! I set the USB to "active"(under disk management) once done... i then reset the computer and not only did the linux OS not work from the stick but i cant access windows 7 anymore!!! i have tried all the BIOS setting from booting from USB to booting from HDD, no luck! i think the problem might have been when i set the USB memory stick to "active" because it did say "if you set this to active it must have an OS on it or it might damage your computer" (something along those lines anyway...) my computer is a laptop, compaq presario CQ40... and just to make things a little harder my CD drive doesnt work either! (been like that for ages, so not related to the problem!) so just wanting to know if there is anything that i can do to recover my computers windows 7?

be sure that all external storage drives are removed. it may be trying to boot off of them. beyond that, there may not be much help for you. did it take ages to boot up again? if it did, it might of been reformatting or something. I'm 13. don't rely on anything i say.

Did you actually install Linux? If not you should still be able to get into Windows 7. Make sure that nothing else is plugged into the computer. Go into the BIOS and make sure that the HDD is your primary boot device.

The best way is you have to reformat the system but you cannot reformat if the cd drive doesnt work. Try to boot your OS using your usb with the OS in it and make it bootable..

Hope this could help!
