I have a program that allows you to make your pc into a server, although my dsl modem is giving it the ip of: 192.168.0.65, which is only good on the network. Do any of you know if there is anything i can do in order to access this on the internet?

possibly he is using "RealVNC" Server ( http://www.realvnc.com )

your IP configuration is set to "Local Network access" and not from other outer Wide Area Network.
your firewall must be set up to be set to be a stnd-alone IP and to route incomming connections on specific ports.

search the web for tutorials for:
Router Port Configuration

You need a static ip, to start with.
No you dont. You just need to know the external IP (or have a DNS if you dont wanna manage that stuff)

Question is, what type of server are you trying to setup? :)

I know my external ip, problem is the programs that i've tried dont see it (they see the 192.168.x.x number) and ther is no spot for me to type an ip in.

I want to be able to download and upload files from my pc at home to/from another pc using a web browser.

go to www.logmein.com and set up a free account. you'll need t download software first. log on to the computer you want to access, and click on somnething like make this computer something or other. then when youll log onto www.logmein.com you choose your computer.

EDIT: That www.whatismyip.com isnt very good, it shows my NTL cache rather than my actual IP address

If you're setting up an FTP server you'll need to forward port 21 on your router to your computer... and if you're using DHCP on your modem then you'll need to set the modem to give you the same INSIDE IP address or just assign it statically. Your modem will also keep your OUTSIDE IP address if it doesn't restart, get kicked off the internet, etc.

But with that software if your OUTSIDE IP address happens to change it will update it to your DNS service.

Do i need to download software on the client computer? Or is it web-based?

And i know my real ip, but i cant log into the server through that ip because all the server program sees is the LAN ip.
