hi,
it seems that even tho i've installed the recent drivers for my realtek ac97 onboard, i cant get any audio out. win doesnt tell me it has no audio device, and the music seems to play the audio file but no sound gets out.
my mb is ga-8i915, and DLed the drivers from gigabyte website.
what should i do???

Got the speakers plugged into the green port on the back of the motherboard? Does device manager say that the sound driver is installed and working properly? Do you have the speaker icon in the sys tray down by the clock? Do you have the right output selected in the audio properties in control panel?

You may have to specify what is plugged into the port when it's plugged in. I know some system software sometimes pops up on some machines asking what is plugged in and it doesn't work till it's confirmed.

It's fairly difficult to go wrong with an AC97 if the drivers are correct. I used the utilities that came with my PC. Didn't a disk of utilities come with your MB (not that the drivers from their site should be incorrect)?

It's more likely to be finger trouble. johnb35 asked if you had the right output selected in audio properties. Did you click the volume control in audio properties to bring up the mixer to check what inputs/volumes are active? Did you try a CD? Did you check the output volume setting for all players (CD, mp3 etc) if applicable? Did you try connecting headphones directly to the (green) output? Apologies for asking the obvious!
