ANY help appreciated...

I'm not exactly sure how you'd share the internet using one machine(I know it's possible, just never done it) but you don't need a router if you can only connect the modem by USB. The WHOLE point of a router is to get two networks together. In the case of consumer ones, it allows access to the internet.

You're current setup should be fine, you just need to find software to allow internet shareing though your one computer connected online.

Now, this method isn't used much anymore, but I have created proxy servers. It's not too hard, software's easy to find, but you just have to be sure and set every program on every computer to go to your main computers IP... I can tell you more about it if you cant find info on other routing methods...
