I have these very old altec lansing speakers that are decent speakers but they make a terribly loud "bumping" noise when they are moved the slightest bit. They also have to be banged on to work sometimes. I think I'm gonna open one up, but any idea what might be wrong?
It would help if you added an arrow to show which connection you are talking about or show a real close-up and description (loose connector, soldered joint, loose component).
and I would have to jam the end of the conector down for it to work correctly. Somehow, the black connector there was accually slightly moving on top of the board. It was soldered on there, so I guess it probably cant be properly fixed
however, I went with the red-neck solution. I didn't take a picture of it, but I jammed a match stick in between that black piece and that shiny metal thing. It appears to be working now. I think I just saved $100 speakers with a match-stick.
You probably have no idea what I'm talking about, but thanks for your help.
From you're description it just sounds like the solder joints are busted, for a more permanent fix all you would need to do is reflow the the solder on them with a soldering iron.
