Can anything be done or shall I just start new? :)

My beloved Dell has aged, significantly.
I buy/sell on Ebay amongst other projects and use photo-shop, html program's and image editor software and thus, need a fast computer that is compatible and will not cause me to bald from sheer hair-pulling during, '

' intervals!

I have taken a montage of some basic computer information to see if any of you experts out there can tell me what ELSE I can do besides the obvious, '101' in speeding this (sadly, not so) bad-boy up...
I have literally and meticulously followed all the general advice (defragment, disk cleanup, anti-v, clean-up, reformatted, more memory etc etc)
However, I am a chick (self-taught) and this is about as technical as I get! ;)

I am close to just picking up a desktop off Craigslist instead of forking out for even more RAM (I have 512/256mb in each slot and can add to 1.5gb) but it may not be worth investing in this 'ol man, right? wrong??.. I thought i'd just give this forum a shot for some opinions! :)

If anyone can give me a personal recommendation for a PC that works best for fast performance with oppressive software! (what main specs to look for etc) please do! My budget is about $350 max (I'm not looking for brand-spanking new, not in this economy!) Switching to Linux, maybe? and no, please no MAC pressure!
I am a PC-girl by day, MAC-girl by night... :)

Thank you, much!

umm... im 14 so don't listen to me... but buy a 2 gig RAM card(keep other RAM), a 500gb Hard Drive, and you're set. that will be a fast computer. oh and buy a new CPU. The AMD Athlon II. I have the Athlon and i have overclocked it to 3 Ghz. It comes with OverClocking software. This will all be cheaper than a whole new computer. The motherboard is probably good, seeing that the motherboard can be very bad and, if you have a good CPU, the computer can be very fast. Take it in to a computer parts store and ask them to speed it up. they will install more RAM and probably a better CPU. good luck!

I'm with coco on this one. hahaha wow!! umm aside from that reference if you can guess where it came from I would get more ram. ram is really cheap and gives a massive performance boost. get 2 gigs and see what it does. if for some reason it doesnt help then get a new comp. but it will help

umm, there is currently an intel celeron it it. if she gets a new processor, she WILL need a new mobo. then a new power supply would probably be needed. the current mobo is proly ddr1, and all new mobos are ddr2 or ddr3, so she will need new ram as well.

sorry, but you will probably need to start over. you can keep the hard drive, and the cd drives, but that is about all

the one recommended by nevakonezza is a really good deal. you could buy the components seperately for that cheap

dang that is a nice computer 4 the money...

Then why did you even post in the first place.

Like a lot of other people have said, theres no point in upgrading the current pc, you really need a new one. Would a laptop be practical for you? They've become quite inexpensive and Tiger Direct and Newegg have both had some awesome deals on laptops lately (I know because they keep emailing me over 9000 times a day about their laptop deals ).

if you use pretty recent software, you might as well have a more recent machine. get one with at least a couple of cores. doesn't have to be fast, but you'll definitely be able to tell the diff.

if you want to give linux a try, get a barebones machine from teh egg, they have good deals sometimes.

Ahhh Thank you...

You guys are great, I appreciate the quick response and respect (Newbie, first post etc)

So as the bills rise and the economy

continues to kick all our asses, the $$ to put towards a new system seems more and more unlikely, however, my brother says he has a dual and claims it has 2gb and a 2.8ghz  so I'm jumping on that if it does in fact, have that! (he has a habit of exaggerating!) I will post the specs when I go and see it hopefully tomorrow. I will still need to pick up a a decent sized hard drive...:o)

I am glad to have joined the forum, keep up the awesomeness :good:
