i built my computer week ago.. but i think my internet is messed up... my old computer which is way worse then my new one gets better connection in games for some reason... and my old computer DOESNT freeze sometimes on a game i play called runescape... also when i goto my control panel then my network connections.. it says i have 2 connections.. one that says "Local Area Connection" and another one that says "1394 Connection 3" .. and it says they are both connected.. and when i try repair the "Local Area Connection" it says "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Clearing NetBT" ... and when i try to repair the "1394 Connection 3" it says "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: TCP/IP is not enabled for this connection. Cannot proceed." ... i have no idea what to do.. and i dont even think there should be 2 connections in "Networking Connections" ... also when i 1st built the comptuer i had trouble getting the internet to work.. i have no idea how i got it to work either.. on both the icons they have a little lock at the top right of the icons also.. but i think thats normal.. also when i couldnt get on the internet when i first built the computer.. it said it was connected.. but i still couldnt get online and it said it was running at 900.0 Mbps, which was strange.. also when i goto toast.net and do the internet speed test its way slower on my new computer then on my old one.. can anyone help me?

try updating the drivers on your LAN card, or it might just have a slower card then your old one, 1394 is firewire, which can be used for internet, but typically isnt.

OK... i assume your connected to a router..
In the lan connection right click and go properties. inside you should have this listen:

Client:
Client for Micrsoft networks

Service:
File and rpinter sharing (if you want to share files between computers)
Qos packet Scheduler

Protocol:
NwLink NetwBios
Nwlink ipx/spx/netbios compatible transport protocol
internal protocol (tcp/ip)

If you dont have all of these... click install and by the bolded name install them. This is for WINXP! They may be a slight name difference if in win98/ME... If it is winme/98 you will also need the netbeui protocol..

The little lock means you have the firewall enabled on the internet connection (not needed if you have a router).

The 1394 thing is not important dont delete it, dont worry about it.

After all of this restart, and try the speed test again

i can relate to this... the problem might have to do with the runescape game believe it or not. my brother plays runescape alot and just last night my mom had trouble opening websites and other types of programs while the runescape program was running on the internet.

if you want to have a sufficient internet connection, try playng the game on a different system and use that system for other tasks

i use runescape on my old computer and it runs superb.. on my new computer its laggy sometimes and freezes... which shouldnt happen

what version of windows do you run on the old computer and what version of windows do you run on the new one?

what exactly is the difference between the home and professional programs? is it just the programs that are installed on it or are there other specifics to it?

Professional has more networking possibilities like being able to join a domain or a workgroup as it is envisaged in professional environment with Domain controllers whereas Home is... well for home users

o0o i see... that kinda makes sense. wow now i wish i had the other version because it's more suited to what i do on my computer ... (even though i do it at home lol)

maybe reinstall your tcp/ip
click on Settings\network\Local Area Connection and select Properties. Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click on the Uninstall button. Reboot. now reinstall like this: Go to the same Local Area Connection Properties and select the Install button. Highlight tcp/ip protocol and click on the Add button. Select Internet protocol (TCP/IP).

oo! apj... you might have something here... when i click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) .. the option to "uninstall" isnt there to click on

ok i should have expected that, xp considers this "essential"
try resetting your tcp/ip, use the command

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

in a msprompt windows

do you mean, cmd.exe? that? well i used that to type in that command.. tryed to repair the connect again and it still says it :(
