can airport scanners ruin any kind of computer storage?

I've never brought a laptop onto a flight before, probably because I've never had a laptop to bring. But I've also never brought a stand-alone external portable hard drive, USB drive, or flash drive like an SD card.

Do the scanners at airports mess up computer storage?

So, I now have a laptop that has only a solid state drive in it. I don't know if airport scanners have anything magnetic in them and I don't know if solid state drives work with magnetism like hard disk drives.

Also, if I was going on a trip for more than a couple weeks, I'd probably want to bring an external portable hard drive for backing up. What about that?

And what about USB flash drives and flash cards for digital cameras, like SD cards and microSD cards?

If airport scanners caused issues, lots and lots of people would be complaining every day that their personal or business computer is ruined.

You have nothing to worry about. I travel with my laptop often and nothing damaging has happened.

My laptop and external hdd have been through airport scanners close to 20 times without any issues. You'll be ok ;)
