I have been wondering this for a while and I am keen to find out: Is it possible to run a modern computer through a television set. I ask this because Home computers of the 1980s could be run through TVs back then, so is it possible today?

Yes if the TV is VGA or HDMI and you have a VGA or HDMI port on your PC (pretty much all should have VGA, most new ones have HDMI). I've done it and there are people who use TVs as their monitors, not the best idea though.

I think you could even use Composite/S-VIDEO too if your TV and PC were older.

Do you also need a tv card for this?

No.

A TV card is just a tuner, it allows you to plug in an aerial or cable to have your computer act like your cable TV box would.

Look at what connections are available on your computer (VGA, DVI, HDMI or a combination of more than one) and what is available on your TV (VGA, HDMI, SCART, Composite, most likely a combination). You then just get the necessary cable.

Your TV is no different to a standard monitor, it is just a display output

If you have let's say DVI wire and your computer for example only has DVI and the TV only has HDMI then be sure to get a small DVI to HDMI interface converter. That happen to me so a small interface converter did the trick.

It really doesn't matter what output interfaces your computer and TV has since there is always a way to make it work using small interface converters.

The only problem would be if your computer has ONLY VGA and your TV only has DVI,HDMI or some other digital inputs because VGA is not a digital input. It is analog input. There ARE converters which can actually convert analog VGA to digital HDMI,but do not always work.It depends on the TV type.I have one of those lol.

But today almost every graphic card chip has at least one analog input and one digital input or multi inputs of either analog or digital or both.

Cheers!

you should really replace that psu.
