Cable splitter box vs router

Hello, we are renovating and the people are sugesting that we use a "cable splitter box" to have an internet cable in each room. First what is a cable splitter box and will it slow down my internet? Second wouldn't it be better just to get a router with QOS or something?
Thanks

I am not so sure what a cable splitter box is, but I don't see why a router wouldn't work. You should be able to get a router to work in an office environment. Maybe the person was worried that the routers switch wouldn't be able to split the connection enough times.

So you have a cable modem.... and people are telling you to buy a coaxial cable splitter... lol.. dont listen to them.

There way will mean that you will have one coaxial cable coming from the wall.... being split into two.. then a modem on each coaxial cable... then an ethernet cable will run from the modem to your Network Interface Card inside your computer... not good.

Use a router! An additional ethernet cable (cat5) is all that will be needed.. along with the router.
