Cable speeds

I was hooking up my cable internet and I was having trouble so I called comcast and they fixed the problem I was having but they told me that I needed to call a different # and have someone do my "provisioning" I dont know what provisioning is but my internet is working... Do I need to call and have some do provisioning or is it not necessary. Also I did a speed test and Its only running at 868.1 Kilobits per second but I thought It would be running much faster... does provisioning have something to do with it running slower?
 
i have no idea what the mean by provisioning... but the speed isnt too bad.. little slow for cable. but you need to remember that when they sell you a package of 1.5mb/384 download/uplaod.. it is up too that speed.. not guaranteed

Getting your cable modem provisioned is when the provider obtain info about your cable modem such as the Firmware, type and most importantly the MAC address so they can release you an IP.

If it works, you don't need to get it provisioned.
 
Provisioning means to provide telecommunications services to a user. This includes providing all necessary hardware, software, and wiring or transmission devices (dont remember where I read this... but I got it from somewhere).

I think they just have to do some stuff behind the scenes... if your internet works, you should not be concerned. Best bet, call them up and ask them what they meant. "provisioning" seems like its a tech term they use to try and sound knowledgable.. it could mean almost anything dealing with you broadband connection.

SFR, your pretty much right. sometimes when accounts/hardware/etc are provisioned, it is done so with some services not activated or sometimes at a slower speed. so u might want to ask if re-provisioning it will increase your speed. it might not, but u never know.

i was going to say something else, but i forgot what it was :(
